How DaaS works

Disassembly as a Service at R3's certified facility.

Add battery disassembly capacity without adding anything to your site. R3’s Karlsruhe facility handles every pack-level step, end to end.

step 1

You ship

End-of-life or OEM production-scrap
battery packs ship to R3’s certified disassembly facility in Karlsruhe. Logistics support and intake scheduling available on request.

step 2

R3 disassembles

Diagnostics, discharge, automated battery disassembly and module extraction. Every step tracked through DigiOps, R3’s software for benchmarking battery disassembly operations across shifts and pack types.

step 3

R3 handles the outputs

Every module comes back to you, ready to move, or we route it onward to the next stage: recycling, reuse, or repair. Your call. Either way, DigiOps tracks it every step of the way.

Who DaaS is for

When disassembly is your bottleneck, not your core business.

Outsource battery pack disassembly when one of these describes your operation.
01

Storage is filling up faster than you can clear it

You need throughput now. DaaS can begin as soon as logistics are in place. No deployment timeline, no infrastructure required.

02

Your volumes are variable or seasonal

Your facility and capital would sit idle at low volumes. DaaS is priced per tonne of intake so you only pay for what you process. It is the closest analogue to toll processing for battery packs.

03

You want to test the business case before committing capital

DaaS is the lowest-friction way to validate automated disassembly at your volumes and pack formats, before you invest in infrastructure. Use it a as a disassembly proof of concept before committing to RaaS or building in-house.

If you'd rather run it on your own site, see our Robotics as a Service deployment.

FAQ

DaaS — frequently asked questions

What is Disassembly as a Service (DaaS)?

DaaS is an outsourced battery disassembly service. You ship your end-of-life or OEM production-scrap EV battery packs to R3’s certified facility in Karlsruhe; R3 disassembles them using automated robotic cells; you receive sorted modules ready for recycling or repurposing.

How is DaaS priced?

Per tonne of intake. You only pay for what is processed — no facility build, no equipment lease, no minimum headcount commitment.

What battery formats does R3 accept?

Over 100 EV pack types, covering approximately 74% of Europe’s end-of-life BEV return volume. New formats are onboarded through R3’s Battery Intake Process.

Is automated battery disassembly safer than manual?

Yes. Automated disassembly eliminates direct human contact with high voltage components and delivers more than 98% process repeatability across shifts and pack types — safer and more consistent than manual disassembly at industrial scale.

What happens to the modules after disassembly?

Your call: they're returned to your facility for downstream recovery, or routed onward to recycling, reuse, or repair. Every step is documented per pack via DigiOps, so you keep a full traceability trail regardless of pathway.
